Question 2

What is the difference between saline and silicone breast implants?

Accepted Answer

Saline and silicone breast implants have different compositions, with saline implants being filled with sterile saltwater and silicone implants being filled with a cohesive silicone gel. Each type has its own unique benefits and considerations, which patients should discuss with their surgeon to determine the best option for their individual needs.

Question 3

What is capsular contracture, and how is it treated?

Accepted Answer

Capsular contracture is a complication that can occur after breast augmentation, where the scar tissue around the implant tightens and hardens. This can be treated through various methods, including capsulectomy (removal of the scar tissue) or implant replacement.

Question 4

What is a "double bubble" deformity, and how can it be corrected?

Accepted Answer

A "double bubble" deformity occurs when the breast implant drops below the natural breast fold, creating the appearance of two separate breast mounds. This can be addressed through surgical techniques to reposition the implant and restore the natural breast contour.

Question 5

What is bia-alcl, and how is it related to breast implant illness?

Accepted Answer

Bia-alcl (breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma) is a rare type of cancer that has been associated with certain types of breast implants. Patients with concerns about breast implant illness should discuss their options with their surgeon, which may include en bloc resection (removal of the implant and surrounding capsule) or complete implant removal.
