Question 1

What is Whistling Wind Ranch?

Accepted Answer

Whistling Wind Ranch is primarily a sheep farm that raises lamb for meat and protein consumption, as well as commercial and purebred breeding stock. The farm also produces secondary items such as wool dryer balls, horseshoe art/home décor, and recycled-based fire starters.

Question 2

What does Whistling Wind Ranch do to reduce waste from processing lambs?

Accepted Answer

Whistling Wind Ranch utilizes various parts of the lambs, such as organ meats, bones, and hides, to avoid the growing concern over "food waste." The farm also processes older animals nearing the end of their life into value-added products, ensuring their last days are spent as close to home as possible.

Question 3

What is the process for taking lambs to the abattoir?

Accepted Answer

Whistling Wind Ranch sees the process of taking lambs to the abattoir for butchering as a "bittersweet time." While it is sad to see them go after all the efforts to keep them alive, the farm knows that their customers will savor and appreciate the end product and the work put into it.

Question 4

What is Whistling Wind Ranch's focus on sustainability and regenerative farming?

Accepted Answer

Whistling Wind Ranch is committed to farming for quality, community, sustainability, and regenerative practices. The farm believes that managing the grass, forage, and forests is crucial for the health of the environment and the animals, ensuring a sustainable future for their operation.
