The company was founded in 1985 by Doña Lena, who started selling authentic street tacos in her hometown of Salamanca, Guanajuato, Mexico. After moving to the USA in the 1990s, Doña Lena continued her taco business from her home, and in 2020, she finally opened her own restaurant. Tacos Doña Lena has been recognized as one of the best places to eat in the US, with multiple awards and features on TV shows.
